Dale Jarrett
Dale Jarrett is pure racing pedigree. He however did not prescribe to this fact as early as most drivers born into a racing family. Growing up in Hickory North Carolina, Jarrett the son of racing legend Ned Jarrett, was a natural athlete and excelled in multiple sports in high school. It was not until 1977 while attending the University of South Carolina on a golf scholarship of all things that he first took his turn behind the wheel. With a loan for a motor and crew of buddies Jarrett ran in his first race and from there he was addicted to the sport of racing.
It only took a few years for Dale Jarrett to make his way on to the NASCAR schedule. Jarrett ran in the 1982 Busch Series and two years later started a Winston Cup Race at Martinsville. He took his first checkered flag in the Busch series in 1986 and just two years later graduated to the Winston Cup for a full schedule. He would have to wait three years for his first cup victory that came at Michigan Speedway, but soon after Dale Jarrett was the hot name in NASCAR wagering.
In 1993 Jarrett won the first of four Daytona 500's a distinction shared by Bobby Allison and Jeff Gordon. He finished that year fourth in the Winston Cup point's standings and had amassed 18 top ten finishes. After switching from Gibbs to Yates racing in 1995, Jarrett found his niche. He took seven checkered flags in 1997 and in 1999 finished in the top 5 in all but 10 of the season's races and claimed a championship. Dale Jarrett has always been a safe NASCAR bet. He finished in the top 5 in NASCAR season points results five years in a row from 1996-2001 and today he and the #88 UPS machine are forging ahead a path for greater success. Rumors are about however that this may be Jarrett's last year with Richard Yates Racing and fans may see him in a Waltrip Toyota in 2007. No matter what the vehicle though the competitive spirit of this time tested champion will make great NASCAR odds in the future.
