NASCAR: DODGE CHARGER 500 WAGERING PREVIEW
The nighttime is the right time for racing this week as the NASCAR schedule presses on to Darlington, SC for the Dodge Charger 500. Saturday night will bring the 13th event of the young Nextel Cup Season and another super-speedway race. The 1.3 mile "Lady in Black" is as formidable a foe as any stop on the circuit and NASCAR odds makers are in a frenzy pontificating results. The walls of this track have sucked in the most experienced of drivers and ended their night early so finding a favorite to wager on the Dodge Charger 500 is a tough task.
Jimmie Johnson comes into Darlington having separated himself from the pack in the Nextel Cup Series point's race. Johnson finished 12th at Richmond and seems to be running well no matter the location. His recent success and the fact that he has taken two of the past three events at the track means NASCAR odds are favoring the young point's leader at Darlington for a top 10 performance. Historically though, top teams get top results at super speedways and the Dodge Charger 500 should not be an exception. The big guns come out under the lights at Darlington and last year that gun was Greg Biffle. Biffle lead nearly half of the race but a bad gamble and worse pit stop by his crew looked to put the National Guard car out of it. Then with five laps to go, the racing stars aligned for Biffle when lead Mark Martin spun out drawing the caution. Biffle and the Roush Racing team took the checkered. Currently Biffle sits in 20th position and a win is desperately needed to continue hopes of a Chase for the Cup.
The great truth about Darlington is that it is untamable. The Dodge Charger 500 will find its winner in the car that has been handled the best by the driver that has pushed the hardest and found himself the luckiest. The main task of any driver at Darlington is to stay away from the wall on turns that bank at 25 degrees at over 160mph. This Saturday, NASCAR bets will be made to pit 1 of over thirty mere humans with machines against an immortal figure of Darlington Raceway.
