KASEY KAHNE
Kasey Kahne is the true definition of a young gun. The 26 year-old pilot of the #9 Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger has jumped from the ranks of novice to NASCAR schedule contender week in and week out. The path that Kahne took to becoming a Nextel Cup Series driver is not considered to be typical of most NASCAR talents. But Kahne has joined a team that is bit unorthodox in their new racing approach with teammates Jeremy Mayfield and Scott Riggs.
Kahne has ferocity on the track reminiscent of some of his most famous predecessors. His aggressive driving style and magnetism to the media made him a known name quick into his first season racing in the Busch Series (2002). Even though Kahne ran only few races that season, it was his tenacity on the track that left an impression heading into his first full season in 2003.
2003 saw Kahne run a full NASCAR schedule in the Busch Series. His huge successes earlier in open wheel and midget car racing, where he won the rookie of the year and driver of the year honors, gave him the foundation to start a winning tradition. That year he took his first NASCAR victory and along with four top five finishes earned Kahne a seventh place finish in the point's race. This primed him for a graduation to the Nextel Cup Series.
In 2004 Kasey Kahne joined Ray Evernham Motorsports and began his assault on the established hierarchy of the NASCAR world. Kahne took rookie of the year honors and finished an incredible 13th in the chase for the cup by taking four poles and racking up over a dozen top five finishes. 2005 however saw Kahne and the Dodge Charger team hit a bit of a sophomore slump. The aggressive driving style showed the other edge of its sword and attributed to the nine races Kahne was not able to finish. The year ended with Kahne in a disappointing 23rd place finish.
The 2006 season is a planned turn around for the Evernham team. By restructuring the crew leadership, the team hopes to compliment the raw talent and prowess of Kahne's driving to mold a run at the 2006 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Championship.
