Most historical stops on the NASCAR schedule are south of the Mason/Dixon line. For a span for four straight races in 1985-86 no one was faster than Bill Elliot and the #9 Ford. Elliot took the checkered flag four consecutive times and earned 5 poles at Michigan, a track he would later consider one of the best he ever drove on. A four time consecutive winner is amazing in NASCAR race results, but no one laid claim to ownership of Michigan International Speedway like David Pearson in 1970s. Pearson won seven races at the track out 10 in a four year span. Pearson was dominant at any track at that time but no where was he getting better NASCAR odds than MIS.
