NASCAR NEXTEL ALL-STAR CHALLENGE WAGERING PREVIEW
NASCAR betting will be in full pitch with big money and hot track action taking center stage as the NASCAR schedule pulls into Lowe's Motor Speedway for the NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge. The drivers and teams get a break from the pressures of Nextel Cup Series point's competition to hit the asphalt in pursuit of dollars and glory in a racing event that differs greatly from the regular season events. Saturday May 20th the stage will be set for NASCAR's eligible elite to duke it out for a million dollar plus purse. The driving challenges will be different than those of a 500-600 mile race and the rules we as fans are accustomed to will go out the window for maximum pedal pushing drama in the three stage event.
The strange format of the All-Star Challenge turns NASCAR odds on their ear for experts trying to pick a winner. The three stages have 40, 30, and 20 respectively leaving precious little time for drivers to plot and exercise patience waiting for an angle to the front or a mistake from a competitor. The race is set up to demand risk taking and the ultimate in aggressive driving for a team to reach victory. The winner of the first segment will collect a $75,000.00 bonus with $30K for the second and $20K for the third revolution. Naturally, NASCAR race results will be accumulated from the three stages to reach a final victor.
Becoming eligible to race in this prestigious event on the NASCAR schedule is a challenge in its own. Previous winners of races in the season and events from the previous season makeup the majority of a 20 car field making certain that NASCAR odds makers will be hard pressed to filter out those not potential competitors when placing bets.
Last year Nextel race results showed venerable Mark Martin as the winner of the Nextel All-Star Challenge. This may carry little weight in Martin's chances this season though as the event is not known for producing repeat winners, especially not back to back. Jimmie Johnson remains the hot hand on the circuit coming into Lowe's and currently enjoys a 97 point lead on the field in the race for the Nextel Cup Series Championship.
