NASCAR DRIVERS

TONY STEWART
Tony Stewart and the Joe Gibbs #20 Home Depot racing team is the high water mark for talent in NASCAR racing. Stewart has participated in a level or style of racing that he has not excelled, won and dominated in. Born in 1971 in Columbus IN, Stewart has always had the competitive mindset. Nurtured by his father from the tender age of seven, he made a habit out of setting records and collecting championships. This trait has stayed with Stewart his entire career driven by a desire to be the best race car driver he could be. Not only did that dream come to fruition, but also Tony Stewart has become one of the best race car drivers in the history of the sport.

It is easy for NASCAR fans to marvel at the triumphs that make up Tony Stewart's career but when the accolades and praise are set forth from his peers and fellow driver, one knows it is something special. The racing world knew that they had truly locked into a gem with Stewart in 1995, when at the age of 24 he completed the USAC Triple Crown and was the first person ever to do so. This feat brought notoriety and acclaim from the right names in the business. Soon after Stewart found himself driving in the new Indy Car Series. Per his modus operandi, Stewart tore through the new challenges and ranks of the league in route to a rookie of the year achievement in 1996 followed immediately by a Series Championship in 1997.

NASCAR wagering was set on its ear in 1998 when Stewart signed with Joe Gibbs racing and in 22 Busch Series races impressed his boss enough to begin his climb in the ranks of the then Winston Cup Series the following year. 1999 was the Tony Stewart coming out party. The #20 Home Depot care took three checkered flags and saw Double Duty driving the Coca-Cola 600 and Indy 500 all in the same day that season. His work earned a rookie of the year award. Stewart only needed three short years to reach the ultimate goal in racing. In 2002 he took his first of two (2005) NASCAR Nextel Cup Series points championships. Success at its highest level has not changed Stewart in many ways. He is still single and lives in his childhood home in Columbus where he plans on more wins and defending his most recent championship.
